LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Karissa Skurnik joined DC Affordable Law Firm in May 2025. Prior to joining DCALF, Karissa worked as a paralegal at a nonprofit immigration firm representing unaccompanied immigrant minors. She has a passion for accompanying people in vulnerable positions through the legal system with compassion, respect, and empathy. 

While earning her B.A. in International Studies and certificate in Spanish Translation from American University, Karissa worked as a research assistant studying the experiences of unaccompanied immigrant minors in families reunited by immigration to the DMV. Karissa also served as a legal intern at DC immigration nonprofits. She graduated summa cum laude in December of 2023 after a semester of studying international relations and political science in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Karissa is fluent in Spanish and English, and values contributing to language access through translation and interpretation.
