Supervising Attorneys Marc Fleischaker, Executive Director and Director Marc Fleischaker is the DC Affordable Law Firm’s Executive Director and head Supervising Attorney. In addition to his work at DCALF, Mr. Fleischaker is Chairman Emeritus of Arent Fox, having served in that capacity from 1996 to 2010. He focuses his practice on counseling national trade and professional associations and foundations in the fields of automotive parts, grain handling and export, higher education, credit counseling, and domestically produced athletic and waterproof plastic and rubber footwear. Recognized by Washingtonian magazine as one of the District’s top lawyers, he has been lead counsel in major regulatory matters and litigation throughout the country, as well as appellate challenges to federal agencies’ regulations. Mr. Fleischaker has chaired several nonprofits dedicated to improving access to justice, including the Appleseed Foundation, the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, the National Health Law Program, and the District of Columbia Bar Foundation. Among the awards he has received are the Whitney North Seymour Award from the National Lawyers Committee in 2003, the Wiley Branton Award from the Washington Lawyers Committee in 2006, and the Justice Potter Stewart Award by the Council for Court Excellence in 2014. In his honor, Arent Fox presents the Marc L. Fleischaker Pro Bono Award each year to a partner who has performed exemplary pro bono work. Mr. Fleischaker chairs the Senior Attorney Initiative for Legal Services, an effort co-sponsored by the District of Columbia Bar and the District’s Access to Justice Commission, that is dedicated to encouraging senior lawyers to contribute pro bono service. Mr. Fleischaker has also engaged in significant class action litigation on a pro bono basis against various federal agencies. Tabitha M. King, Supervising Associate Tabitha M. King joined the DC Affordable Law Firm in September 2015. She came to DCALF with experience in immigration, labor, health, education, and international development before and during law school. At DCALF, she has practiced primarily Family Law, Small Business/Non-profit, and Immigration. Tabitha earned her B.A. in Sociology and Theatre, and Certificate in Latin American & Caribbean Studies from Washington & Lee University. She earned her J.D. and Refugee & Humanitarian Emergencies Certificate from Georgetown University Law Center. There, she was a Student Attorney in the Asylum Law clinic, CALS, and co-authored an award winning human rights report on the rights of children of Haitian descent in the Dominican Republic, published by the Georgetown Law Human Rights Institute. At Georgetown Law, Tabitha completed over 175 hours of pro bono work including internships at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, Movimiento Socio-Cultural de los Trabajadores Haitianos (MOSCTHA), the O’Neil Institute for National and Global Health Law, and the Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) within the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL). Tabitha was also awarded a Dean’s Certificate for Exceptional Service to the Law Center for her leadership activities. Tabitha also earned her L.L.M. in Advocacy from Georgetown Law through her work as a first-year associate at DC Affordable Law. She has worked in Trinidad and the Dominican Republic and used Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole, domestically and abroad. Tabitha is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia.
